Since only a minority of the people here are Christians, Christmas is not an official holiday in China… Nevertheless they love Christmas here and the city is getting into the Christmas Spirit for sure! Almost everywhere they put up lights and treesy with christmas gifts under the tree and some fake snow on top of it… I’ve also seen several Santa Clauses coming to town and beign a highly interesting subject to take pictures with!...

Through a language partner program I met a girl called Katrina, who studies foreign languages at Shenzhen University. Her studies include the languages English and French and she could also choose a third language, where she decided to learn German. I didn’t actually know, that you could learn German at Shenzhen University and I was even more surprised to hear that every year 15-30 Students choose to learn the language (even though compared to the number of students at the University it is a very little number)!...
This weekend in went to Guangzhou to visut my friend Michelle, who I met while I was in summer school in Minnesota in 2015. Guangzhou is around 80 km northwest of Shenzhen and is the capital of Guangdong Province. I went to Guangzhou by highspeed train, which reaches a speed of over 300 km/h and therefore it only takes 35 minutes from Shenzhen to Guanhzhou (if you do the math, it doesn’t add up because there was a stop in between)....
One of the big differences that I remarked here in China compared to Switzerland is how much but also how diverse phones are used here. You would probably already think that the young generation in Switzerland spends a lot of time on their phone, but this is a whole different thing here. Here it is very common to have two smartphones....
