My Chinese New Year Experience

The Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the new year in the Lunar Calendar. Therefore it is also called Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. This year, the lunar new year landed on February 16th and the year of the dog 狗 started. Already some days before the Spring Festival we could feel it’s approaching as Shenzhen slowly began to get less and less crowded....

Hongkong

Last week I went to Hongkong for some days togther with my brother, his friend Seven and my friend Clara. The travelling crew: Me, Seven, Oli, Clara On the frist day we left Shenzhen in the late afternoon and went to Hongkong by public transportation. We took the Shenzhen metro to Luohu 罗湖,where we crossed the border (which was surprisingly fast) and then took the Hongkong metro to Jordan, where our hostel was located....

My family came to Shenzhen

During the last two weeks, my parents and my brother came to Shenzhen. Well, they didn’t all came together, so I could forward to seeing them again three times! The first one to arrive was my dad, who is coming to Shenzhen to work for one year! I spend the weekend with him, but he’s probably spend more time in Shenzhen than me, so I didn’t have to show him a lot of the city....

My Chinese skills

Besides all the very interesting experiences and fun things I did here in China, I’ve also still been learning Chinese. Now it’s the end of the semester (I only have to finish my exams next week) and so I wanted to give you an update on my Chinese skills. Lately a lot of people have been asking me if I can speak Chinese now, which made me thinking of when we can say we “can speak a language”....

Hong Kong Daytrip

Last Thrusday I went to Hong Kong for the day. Hong Kong is very close to China, however it is an autonomous region so in order to get there you have to go both through the Chinese and the Hong Kong Border.
