This weekend we had to go to class on a Saturday. This was because we have a one week holiday for the Mayday and therefore we have to have some additional classes.
To make it a little more bearable for us to go to school on the weekend our techer designed a whole morning around food.
First everyone brought a dish from their country, explained it and gave it to the others to try. We had a table filled with Mexican guacamole, Korean rice noodles, Vietnamese spring rolls, Croation Gnocci, Turkish rice rolls and some more delicious things.
I prepared a Rösti to present, which was not a very eawy thing to explain in Chinese. But the Rösti was delicious and everyone liked it - it took only 3 minutes and the whole Rösti was gone.
Now I have a Chinese word for you to remember: Rösti in Chinese is 薯饼 shubing.
The second part of this morning was our teacher teaching us how to do dumplings. Dumplings are very similar to Ravioli, they have a filling (mostly with meat or seafood) which is surrounded by dough. I’ve always loved to eat them so it was really time that I learned how to do it.
First we prepared the dough, which is just dumpling flour mixed with water and then formed to thin, round disc. Later you put a small portion of fillind in the middle of the dough. Then we closed the dumplings and pressed the two doughs together. To make them look nicer, you can make littlw flips in the dough. Afterwards we cooked them in boiling water where I learned a new trick. When the water boils you should put the dumplings in the water. Then it will stop boiling (because you added the dumplings), you then wait until it boils again, add a cup of cold water and when it then boils again, the dumplings are ready to eat!
