In a little more than a week I will leave for China and start my adventure. I will stay in China for at least half a year and probably as long as a year.
The city I will stay in is Shenzhen ( 深圳市). It may not ring a bell in you at first, however the city is quite big, with a population almost twice as much as the one of Switzerland. Shenzhen is located in south-east of China, just at the border to Hong Kong. Shenzhen forms part of the provice Guangdong 广东 (Guang 广 = broad, dong 东 = east).
In 1980 Shenzhen was designated China’s first Special economic zone, giving it the special economic policies and flexible government measures. Therefore Shenzhen is a interesting place for both national and international companies, making it a wealthy and fast growing city.
My goal for my time in Shenzhen is to learn the Chinese Language. Therefore I will participate a Chinese Language Course at Shenzhen University. In the lessons, they teach reading, listening and writing Chinese. You can also chose from different cultural elecitves, like calligraphy or Chinese painting.
I’m really looking forward to going to China, not only to learn a new language but to learn about a new culture and to broaden my horizon.
